Morris L. Melhouse

May 9, 1928 ~ January 1, 2019 (age 90)

Morris L. Melhouse, age 90 of Cannon Falls, died on Tuesday morning, January 1, 2019 at Three Links – Reflections End of Life Care in Northfield.

Morris was born on May 9, 1928 in Leon Township, MN, the son of Burton M. and Alma B. (Lund) Melhouse. He graduated from Cannon Falls High School and attended the University of MN Agricultural School. He farmed most all of his life, and was a can milk hauler for 7 years. Farming was not only his career but his passion. He was innovative in his thinking, and did all of his own mechanic work. He continued working well in to his 70’s.

He was married to Jean Nord on October 29, 1949 at her parent’s farm in Leon Township. Together they raised four children. Following her death, he later married Jean Driscoll.

Morris enjoyed traveling and polka dancing. He did travel in his motorhome throughout the states, and also attended many polka fests along the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean on November 29, 2000; and brothers, Alva (Carol) Melhouse and Curtis (Donna) Melhouse.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Driscoll-Melhouse of Oronoco; his children, Robert (Gayle) of Dennison, Steven (Karen) of Cannon Falls, Rosemary (Dan) Meyer of Lake Elmo, and Sherry (Steve) Schutt of Greenfield; 7 grandchildren, Shelly (Chris) Zimmerman, Emily (Jeff) Myers, Karla (Brad) Setter, Pauline (Tony) Beman, Desta (Chad) Millner, David (Karri) Dieken, and Sarah Schutt; 14 great grandchildren; and brother, Harry (Joan) of Cannon Falls. He is also survived by five step children and their families.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 12 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at Urland Lutheran Church. Following a lunch, interment will be held at Lands Lutheran Cemetery, Zumbrota.

Active urn bearer will be grandson, David Dieken. Honorary urn bearers will be his other six grandchildren.
