Alva Melhouse

Alva Burton Melhouse, age 77 of Cannon Falls, died peacefully on Thursday afternoon, May 3, 2007 at the Hospice of the Valley - Sun City PCU in Peoria, Arizona.



Alva was born on June 15, 1929 in Leon Township, the son of Burton and Alma (Lund) Melhouse. He graduated from Cannon Falls High School in 1946.



He married his high school classmate and sweetheart, Carol R. Edstrom on October 5, 1947 in Northwood, Iowa.



Alva farmed most of his life, and also worked as a carpenter in construction. He retired in 1992. He and Carol have been wintering in Arizona since 1993. He enjoyed golfing.



He was a member of St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. He was also a member of the Carpenter's Local Union, and served on the Wastedo School Board and the Spring Garden Church Council.

He was always willing to volunteer, and had been a volunteer driver for a few years for the Shepherd Center in Cannon Falls. He and Carol were also foster parents for 10 years.



He is survived by his wife of over 59 years, Carol; sons, Dale (Cheryl) of Goodhue and Paul of Cannon Falls; daughter, Laurel (David) Kuplic of Bloomington; seven grandchildren, Christine (Scott) Collins, Jason Melhouse, Erin (Andy) Hines, Eric and Brett Melhouse, Steven and Andrew Kuplic; three great-grandchildren, Abby and Makenna Collins, and Elijah Hines; one step grandson, Jim (Kristy) Olson; and two step great-grandchildren, Annika and Garrett Olson; three brothers, Morris (Jeanie) of Oronoco, Curtis (Donna) of Kenyon, and Harold "Harry" (Joan) of Cannon Falls; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.



Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 10 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Gary Schulz and Pastor Arthur Sharot officiating.

Interment will follow a luncheon at church, at the Spring Garden Lutheran Cemetery at 2 p.m.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church on Thursday from 10-11 a.m.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Steven and Andrew Kuplic, Eric, Brett and Jason Melhouse, and Scott Collins.



Memorials are preferred to the St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church.
