Audrey Benrud

Audrey Marcine Benrud, age 80 of Goodhue, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, September 10, 2012. She survived non-Hodgkins lymphoma for over 16 years. Audrey was born on March 25, 1932 in Lake City, MN to Elmer and Iva (Copp) Geppert. She attended rural school District 99, and graduated from Lake City High School. She was baptized, confirmed, and married to Lester E. Benrud at First Congregational Church in Lake City. Following their marriage on March 20, 1955, they made their home in Belvidere Township, where they farmed until his death in 1979. Her various jobs included working as a secretary at DiAcro in Lake City, as a medical secretary for the Mayo Clinic Pediatric Department, as church secretary at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Goodhue, and as a secretary for Goodhue County. Throughout the years, she was the President of St. Luke LCW and was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher. She also served on various church committees. She was a key member of the Outreach Committee for numerous years and was responsible for bringing in many new members to the church. She spent several years involved with Rural Youth and was a local, state and national officer. She spent time as a 4-H Adult Leader and participated in the Goodhue County Farm Bureau. She was widely known for her engraved and personalized cake pans. She also spent time doing various sewing projects and alterations for people in the area. She enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends, especially cinnamon rolls. She loved when spring came so she could spend time in her garden with her flowers. Her very favorite thing was spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her three children, Bruce (Becky) Benrud of Goodhue, Lynn Benrud (friend, Art Bernard) of Oronoco, and Lorna (Jon) Bock of Bay City, WI; five grandchildren, Brad and Molly Benrud, Ellie, Courtney and Colton Ryan; brother, Wayne (Betty) Geppert of Lake City; sister-in-law, Nathlye Benrud of Goodhue; and 9 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester on April 3, 1979; her granddaughter, Elizabeth "Beth" Benrud on July 27, 2007; and her parents, Elmer and Iva Geppert. A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 13 from 4-7 p.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Goodhue. The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 14 at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Regina Hassanaly officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Goodhue.
