Carl Benson

September 12, 1916 — March 2, 2017

Carl O. Benson, 100, a life-long resident of Cannon Falls, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 2, 2017 with his loved ones by his side. He was a lifetime member of First English Lutheran Church. He was married to Helen Benson for 75 years. They lived on the Benson Farm west of Cannon Falls where Carl farmed and raised his family. Carl loved hunting and fishing, cutting wood, playing cards, and helping the family out in many ways. He enjoyed being a jokester with an endless sense of humor and wisdom. Always the saver, he had something to "fix" everything. Carl was preceded in death by his wife Helen, his parents Oren and Lydia Benson and his sister Corrine Jesme. Survivors include his children Judy (Dennis) Smith of Kenyon, Robert (Linda) Benson, and Janet (Ed) Thomas, all of Cannon Falls; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister Louise Robinson, brother Larry Benson of Cannon Falls, and sister-in-law Leatrice Fredrickson of Red Wing. Visitation will be from 2-4:00 pm, Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Lundberg Funeral Home, 5839 Highway 19 Blvd., Cannon Falls. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Monday, March 6, 2017 at First English Lutheran Church, 511 W. Belle St., Cannon Falls. There will also be a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery. Pallbearers are James Smith, Jeff Smith, Jason Smith, John Benson, Donald Benson, Brian Benson, Josh Banks, and Chad Banks. Memorials may be directed to First English Lutheran Church or Twin Rivers Senior Housing.
