Carmon Elstad

August 17, 1930 — April 11, 2014

Carmon Edsel Elstad, age 83 of Cannon Falls, died on Friday morning, April 11, 2014 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Carmon was born at home in Dennison, MN on August 17, 1930, the son of Fulton and Dorothy (Fremouw) Elstad. He graduated from Faribault High School, and worked as a farmhand for area farmers. He worked at Moland Creamery, Andrews Nursery and Sellner Manufacturing, both in Faribault. He was employed with St. Olaf College in Northfield for 30 years, retiring in 1992. Carmon enjoyed bluegrass music and played harmonica with a group of musicians, playing at nursing homes in the area. He loved John Deere tractors and had many collectables. He married Margaret Lewis on June 12, 1956 and had three daughters together. They later divorced. Carmon married Elaine (Quam) Fremouw on October 27, 1985. He attended Cannon River Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. For the past year, Carmon has been residing at Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Elaine; his daughters, Shirley (Dave) Geisler of Lakeville, Cindy (Greg) North of Austin, TX, and Connie (Jeff) Anderson of Faribault; step-children, Rhonda (Pete) Klug of Loveland, CO, Sandra (Steve) Clayton of Cannon Falls, Debra (George) Huber of Stillwater, David (Tina) Fremouw and Douglas Fremouw (fiancé Janelle Cady), all of Cannon Falls; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Joyce Waslie of Cannon Falls, Geraldine (Hank) Dotzler of Lakeville, Richard (Diane) Elstad of Wabasha, Ellen Paul of St. Paul, Virginia (Bill) Sartor of Faribault, Kathryn (David) Wagner of Lonsdale, Jane Elstad (Don Bettinger) of Now Then, Jean Woznak of Robbinsdale, and Laurel (Keith) Remund of Waseca; brother-in-law, Bruce Neale of Denver, CO; sister-in-law, Janette Elstad of Warsaw; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fulton and Dorothy Elstad and step-mother, Vera Elstad; step-daughter, Linda Fremouw; sister, Marilyn Neale; brother, Robert Elstad; and sister-in-law, Alice Elstad. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 16 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at Cannon River Lutheran Church, with Pastor Bob Berthold officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15 from 4-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Benjamin and Joseph Salveson, Jordan and Nickolas Anderson, Allan Klug, Matthew and Jeremy Clayton. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren, Devan Anderson, Brandon Klug, Darla Eastman, Jessie Gerdes, Jenae Lintvedt, Kristina Clayton, Dani, Lyndsey and Gracie Fremouw.
