Claire Erickson

Claire Wilbur Erickson, age 77, a long-time resident of Cannon Falls, died on Thursday evening, October 23, 2008 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.

Claire was born on October 14, 1931 in Cannon Falls, the son of Clarence and Ellen (Fredrickson) Erickson. He graduated from the Cannon Falls High School, and went on to serve with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and was stationed in Okinawa. He served from January 24, 1950 until his honorable discharge on January 23, 1954.

Upon his return, he married Ruth C. Puppe on October 8, 1955 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing. They raised four children.  While living in St. Paul, Claire was a member of the Hamm’s Indians Drum and Bugle Corps. Ruth died on January 27, 1998.

He married Bette L. Blattner on February 20, 1999 at Cannon Falls. He loved the outdoors, and in his earlier years enjoyed hunting. He and Bette enjoyed their summers up in northern Wisconsin, where he loved to play golf, and they enjoyed fishing.

Claire was a carpenter by trade. He was a member for 25 years with the Carpenter’s Local #87. He was also a life member of the VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Bette; beloved dog, Tootsie; four children, Patti Jacobson of Kenyon, Douglas (Sheri) Erickson of Raleigh, NC, Nancee (Bill) Barfknecht of Farmington, and Mitchell (Lynn) Erickson of Odenton, Maryland; ten grandchildren, Jeremiah Jacobson (Marissa Anderson), Joshua and Brittney Jacobson, Jacob and Noah Erickson, Ali Carlson, Cody and Andrew Barfknecht, Amanda and Kevin Erickson; two step sons, Thomas DeWeese of Cannon Falls, and Douglas (Deb) DeWeese of Goodhue; two step grandsons, Michael and Tim DeWeese; brother, Warren (Martha) Erickson of Bemus Point, NY; sister, Jean (Lloyd) Martenson of Vasa; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ruth; grandson, Dylan Erickson; brother, Conroe (Ruth) Erickson and infant sister, Clarice.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Karl Lunder officiating.

A private family interment with military honors will take place at Spring Garden Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to Heartland Hospice Care, Mayo Cancer Research, and the chapel fund at the Angels Care Center.
