Darnell "Bink" Montey

Darnell William "Bink" Montey, age 74 of Welch, died on Friday afternoon, February 13, 2026 at the Mayo Clinic Health System - Cannon Falls.

Bink was born on December 28, 1951 in Red Wing, the son of Earl and Phyllis (Goyer) Montey. He graduated in 1970 from Central High School in Red Wing.

He married Marilyn Clemens on August 18, 1973 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Welch. Bink worked for Xcel Energy at the Prairie Island Nuclear Plant, Welch for 39 years, retiring in 2012.

Bink enjoyed the outdoors; riding bike, snowmobiling, and motorcycling. He loved nature and finding pleasure in the beauty of flowers and the landscape. He loved to be on the go and socialize wherever he went. He enjoyed history, especially of the local area. Most of all, he loved his grandchildren and spending time with them.

He is survived by his wife of over 52 years, Marilyn; their children, Joe (Amber) of Welch, Justin of Red Wing, and Jenna of Welch; grandchildren, Tucker, Clayton, Ava, Madilyn, Jack, Mya, Georgia, Jadyn and Easton; and sister-in-law, Darlene Montey of Waco, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dayle "Nub" Montey.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 20 at 2:00 pm, with visitation from 1-2 pm, at Vasa Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
