Don Sangren

September 30, 1931 — September 1, 2016

Donald (Don) Raymond Sangren, 84, of Plainview, died on Thursday, September 1, 2016. Don was born on September 30, 1931 in Chicago, IL. He moved to Minneapolis MN at an early age, attending school and later enlisting in the United States Marines. He served from 1951 – 1954 and was a Korean War veteran. On September 16, 1957 he married NolaMae Elaine Blair in Minneapolis, with whom he shared almost 59 years. Upon his honorable discharge from the Marines, Don hired on as a Brakeman with the Milwaukee Road Railroad where he worked for over 25 years. After an injury forced an early retirement, the family moved to Cannon Falls in 1973. Don enjoyed time with his family and playing all his 'magic' on his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Nola of Plainview, four children, Dawn (David) Maslowski of Colorado Springs CO, Callie (Danny) Johnson of Hampton MN, Deb "Day" Johannes of North Bend WA, and Steve (Melissa) Sangren of Plainview; nine grandchildren, D.J. Maslowski and Angela (Josh) Lenn, Seth (Bobbie) Johnson and Jill (Nick) Weber, Nick (Rachel) Johannes, Blake Johannes, and Olivia Ryan, and Shelby and Bailey Sangren; 8 great-grandchildren, Alina Maslowski, and Lorelai Lenn, Kaden Schneider, Braxton Johnson, and Baby Johnson due in February, and Chelsea and Carston Weber, and Rigby Johannes. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Vera Sangren, in-laws Wilbur and Nola Blair and several sister-in law and brother in-laws. Rags was a master storyteller and had the ability to make all that met him laugh. When you remember him, do so with a smirk, a laugh, and a shake of the head as he would have wanted it that way. A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, September 8 from 4-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Lundberg Funeral Home, Cannon Falls. A private family interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with military honors.
