Donald Dankers

Donald Dankers died at his home in Goodhue on July 13, 2015, at the age of 72 years. Donald Martin Dankers was born April 30, 1943 in Red Wing, Minnesota to Martin and Irene (Banidt) Dankers. He was raised in Goodhue and graduated from Goodhue High School, Class of 1961. Don married Lois Flaten on July 20, 1968 at Holden Lutheran Church in Kenyon, Minnesota. They made their home in Goodhue all of their married years. Right after high school, Don served in the National Guard for six months before starting his lifelong career as a dairy and crop farmer. Over the years, Don enjoyed watching and participating in tractor pulls, playing foosball, visiting at card club, hitting golf balls in the field, riding four wheeler, cooking, listening to music, and watching professional golf and tennis. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Irene; and sister-in-law, Merry Dankers. He is survived by his wife, Lois; daughters, Patty (Jay) McNamara of LaCrosse WI, Jane (Mark) Bortnem of Maple Grove, Amy (Steve) Hinrichs of Plainview, and Annette (Travis) Reimers of Plainview; one son, Kevin (Robyn) Dankers of Goodhue; one brother, Wayne Dankers of Kalispell, MT; two sisters, Marilyn (Nick) Luhman of Goodhue and Diann (Robert) Schachtschneider of Milwaukee WI; 16 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 18th at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Goodhue at 11:00 am with visitation one hour before the service. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Goodhue. Active pallbearers will be nephews, Rob Schachtschneider, Nathan Schachtschneider, Mark Luhman, Eric Blakstad, Rick Robles, and Bruce Flaten. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren, Patrick, Jenna and Joseph McNamara, Erika, Brianna and Brandon Bortnem, Samantha, Abigail and Alexander Hinrichs, Blaize and Bianca Dankers, Micayla and Bryson Reimers, Hailey, Shelby and Jaysa Dankers. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Peter's Church.
