Donald Davis

Donald Keith Davis, age 79 of Farmington, died on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville. Don was born on June 18, 1937 in Bradgate, IA, the son of Donald and Grace (Kelsey) Davis. He moved to Hayfield, MN as a young lad, and graduated from Hayfield High School. Immediately following high school, he joined the US Navy in 1955 and went to the Great Lakes Naval Training Base in Illinois. He married Mary Beck, had four children together, and they were later divorced. During his 20 plus years of military service, he was a communication technician and instructor. He was stationed in Long Beach, CA, French Morocco (Sidi Vahia), Bethesda, MD working in the Pentagon communication center, Philippines, Pensacola, FL (home of the Blue Angels), Japan, Skaggs Island (near Vallejo, CA), and retired out of Naval Communication Station in San Diego. During his years in the Navy, his time was largely on land with one memorable ship tour on the USS Banner. He was awarded the Good Conduct medal, National Defense Service medal, Naval Unit Commendation ribbon, and Armed Forces Expeditionary medal (Vietnam). He retired from the US Navy in 1974 returning to Minnesota. After retirement from the Navy, he became an auto mechanic in Apple Valley, MN. After moving back to Vallejo, he worked as an auto mechanic and service station manager for 19 years before fully retiring. He married Cynthia Spillman on August 25, 1988 in Las Vegas, NV. He is survived by his wife of over 27 years, Cynthia; children, Kem (Bernie) Williams of Fairfield, CA, Brenda Davis of Dallas, TX, Wayne (Ebony) Davis of Phoenix, AZ, and Wendy Davis of Owatonna; 10 grandchildren, Patrick McKown, Brandon Lockwood, James McKown, Tanya McKown, Shanti Hindi, Wanisha Davis, Darray Davis, Amira Hindi, Destine Davis, and Jamila Davis; 18 great-grandchildren, Jasmyn McKown, Matthew Powell, Natasha McKown, Jonathan Powell, Christian McKown, Samira McKown, Jolene McKown, Elijah McKown, Kegan Lee, Evan Lockwood, Jett Sims, Abigail Lockwood, Nehemiah Van Buren, Malachi Van Buren, Jullian Davis, Sophiia Delgado, Daniel Delgado, and Oakley Davis; brother, Richard Davis of Leroy, MN; sister-in-law, Karen (Marc) Slininger of Randolph; brother-in-law, Gary (Penny) Spillman of Stanton; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dorothy Davis, Beverly Kuehl, and Susan Collett; brother-in-law, Harvey Kuehl; grandchildren, Angela McKown and JR Stoen; and great-grandson, Phoenix Givins. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 4 from 4-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. Funeral service will be on Friday, August 5 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at First English Lutheran Church, Cannon Falls. Interment with military honors will be on Tuesday, August 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Assembly Area #4. Active pallbearers will be Patrick McKown, Brandon Lockwood, James McKown, Doug Spillman, Michael Spillman, and Philip Slininger.
