Douglas Weber

February 3, 1959 — July 28, 2012

Douglas J. Weber, age 53 of Cannon Falls, died unexpectedly on July 28, 2012 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Miesville, MN with Fr. Fernando Ortega officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 from 4:00-8:00 pm at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Miesville and also for one hour prior to the service at the church. Douglas J. Weber, the son of John "Jack" and Marlys (Miller) Weber, was born February 3, 1959 in Hastings, and grew up on the family farm. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1977. On April 23, 1983 Doug was united in marriage to Merrilee Ashton at St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cannon Falls. They made their home north of Cannon Falls where Doug built the house where they resided. He was currently an employee of the City of Hastings for more than 25 years where he worked on the Street Maintenance Department and took care of the Ice Arena. Farming was always a part of his life and he enjoyed farming with his dad and brothers. He said that he loved farming because it was a job where you could plant something and get the satisfaction of watching it grow…and you could be your own boss. In addition, he and Merrilee owned several Subway Restaurants in the area. Doug enjoyed his hunting excursion to Wyoming, bow hunting with his sons, brothers and dad and also the annual spring turkey hunt with his boys. Every year, he and Sianna shared a fantasy football team and they would combine their efforts to win it all. He loved his wife dearly and his children were his pride and joy. Doug enjoyed watching his kids play sports and getting in "TV and ice cream time" with them. Doug was generous with his time and always put others before himself. He was a member of the Cannon Falls Sportsmans Club and the Knights of Columbus. In October of 2011 a benefit was held and Doug was overwhelmed with the response of so many caring people. They were able to find four potential donor matches in the fight against bone marrow and blood disease. From the onset of his diagnosis with leukemia in 2003, Doug courageously fought hard…He never lost the battle with cancer, he won the right to enter heaven. Doug is survived by his loving wife Merrilee; children, Sianna, Nicholas (Jill), Samuel (girlfriend Lexie Lee); parents, Jack and Marlys; siblings, Gretchen (Steve) Rauchwarter, Scott (Rosann), Sandra Strandberg, Tim (Rene) and Tom. Also 3 Godchildren, many nieces and nephews, loving in-laws and numerous friends. He is preceded in death by his brother David and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joyce "Mitzi" and Myron Ashton.
