Duane Holt

August 13, 1941 — November 23, 2024

Cannon Falls

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Duane Harold Holt announces his passing on November 23, 2024 at the Cannon Falls Hospital. Duane was born in Wanamingo on August 13, 1941 to Ed and Glenis Holt. At the age of 4, he lost his father, sister and home in an explosion. His mom and brothers moved to Northfield and then to Cannon Falls where he graduated in 1960. He married his high school sweetheart, Judith McCusker and together they raised a beautiful family. In June of 2024, he and Judy celebrated 64 years of marriage.

Duane worked a number of years at Honeywell before deciding to go into business for himself. He owned and operated Valley View Trenching and Backhoeing which he later sold to his nephew. Duane then went into construction and built a number of spec homes in the community. Before retiring, he owned and operated Marina Liquors in Lake City.

Duane had a love of cars and made sure they were always sparkling clean. His most recent trip to the car wash was eventful when the driver's side window fell down during the wash. He and Judy emerged from the car wash with soapy hair and standing water on the floor of the car.

Duane will be sadly missed by his wife Judy; his 4 children, Darla Dahl (Dean), Jody Sjoblom (Craig), Jim Holt(Traci) and Dean Holt (Stacy); his 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Glenis; sister, Helen; brothers, Lavern and Jack; son-in-law, Craig Sjoblom; father-in-law and mother-in-law, LeRoy and Mabel McCusker; and his special aunt, Verna Beisner.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 1 at Lundberg Funeral Home, Cannon Falls from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm. His funeral will be held on Monday, December 2 at First English Lutheran Church at 1:00 pm, with visitation from 12 pm-1 pm, with burial at the Cannon Falls Cemetery following the service. The funeral will be live streamed and available for viewing below.

Active casket bearers will be his grandchildren, Angie Potts, Brandon Peterson, Alex Dahl, Brittany Meza, Josh Dahl, Christopher Sjoblom, Matthew Sjoblom, Kaitlyn Schroeder, Tanner Holt, Kade Holt, Henry Holt, and Emmet Holt.
