Eleanor M. Holt

Eleanor M. Holt, 89, of Cannon Falls, died on Friday, March 8, 2024 at her home.

Eleanor Marie Holt was born on August 23, 1934, in Red Wing, the eldest daughter of Virgil and Rosella (Rapp) Holm. She grew up in Cannon Falls, graduating from Cannon Falls High School in 1952. Following graduation, Eleanor worked various jobs in the area including at the Sears catalog store, Kid Duds, and Windy Acres. She eventually went to work as a secretary for the Cannon Falls School District, in the Wastedo School. On June 26, 1954, Eleanor married Jack Holt at St. Ansgar’s Lutheran Church. She was a long-time member of First English Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Altar Guild and Bible Studies. Eleanor had a love of history and genealogy. She volunteered and did research at the Cannon Falls Museum. She was known as a Cannon Falls Historian. She had uncles in the service during WWII, and was also interested in the history of that era.

Survivors include her children Keith (Jan) Holt, Steve (Karen) Holt, and Diane (Mark) David; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson; sister Janet (Larry) Provost, brother-in-law Duane (Judy) Holt, friend Roger Anderson, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, sisters Marlene (Jerry) Erickson and Sharon (Jack) Dockter, brother-in-law Laverne (Bonnie) Holt, and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Cannon Falls Historical Society.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024 at 11:00 am, at First English Lutheran Church, 511 W. Belle St, Cannon Falls, MN, 55009. There will be a visitation on Thursday, March 14, from 4-7:00 pm, at Lundberg Funeral Home, 5839 Hwy 19 Blvd, Cannon Falls, MN 55009. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
