G. Maurice Urevig, age 89, a lifelong resident of Leon Township in the Edgewood area, died on Tuesday morning, August 12, 2008 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls, where he has been a resident for the past 3 ½ years.

Maurice was born on July 22, 1919 in Leon Township, the son of Martin and Clara (Egtvedt) Urevig. He attended country school, and later attended the School of Agriculture at the University of Minnesota.

Maurice married Mary N. Miller on April 24, 1954 at the Spring Garden Lutheran Church.

Maurice farmed with his father until he started working in construction. He owned and operated Urevig Construction for 32 years, retiring in 1984.

He was an active lifetime member of Urland Lutheran Church, and served on the church and cemetery boards. He loved fishing! He also enjoyed watching all high school and college sports that his nephews and friends were involved with.  He enjoyed reading, and working with wood in his shop. He had also been a member of the Norsemen Singers.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary; brother, Edgar (Evelyn) Urevig of Madelia; and nephews, Tom, Doug and Greg Urevig, Gary and Gale Benson, and their families.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Nettie Benson.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 16 at 2 p.m. at Urland Lutheran Church, with Pastor Arthur Sharot officiating.Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held AT THE CHURCH on Friday from 4-7 p.m. and Saturday from 1-2 p.m.

Active pallbearers will be godsons, Kevin Watson, Scott Berg, Dallas Miller and Chris Collins, and nephews, Wayne Miller, Roger Nelson and Paul Berg. Honorary pallbearers will be godsons, Gale Benson, Doug Urevig and Donald Nelson.
