Hazel Irene Sorensen, age 84 of Cannon Falls, died at her home on Friday, November 17, 2006.
Hazel was born on September 23, 1922 in Oronoco, MN, the daughter of William F. and Lena (King) Becker. She grew up in Oronoco and had worked as a nurse's aid at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
She married Melvin S. Sorensen on September 1, 1943 in Oronoco. They lived in Prescott, WI and Hastings prior to moving to Cannon Falls in 1974. Hazel worked for several years until her retirement at Smead Manufacturing in Hastings.
She and her husband resided for many years at Riverside Terrace in Cannon Falls. He died on November 11, 2002. She has been a resident of the Stonehouse Apartments in Cannon Falls for the past three years.
Hazel enjoyed decorating her home for the holidays, and caring for the Stonehouse cats.
She is survived by her daughters, Shirley (John) Stanich of Rochester and Susan Barritt of Stillwater; five grandchildren, Heather (Troy) Mickelson, Jessica (Brian) Knight, Elizabeth Barritt, John McCreight and Joshua Barritt; granddaughter-in-law, Kimberly Stanich; two great-granddaughters, Jaida Stanich and Annika Mickelson; sister-in-law, June Brandt of Eyota; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin; grandson, Brandon Stanich; five brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November. 21 from 4-7 pm at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls.
A private family burial service will be held at a later date at the Oronoco Cemetery in Oronoco, MN.
Memorials are preferred to donor's choice.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kimberly Stanich, Heather and Troy Mickelson, Jessica and Brian Knight, Elizabeth Barritt, John McCreight, Joshua Barritt, Jaida Stanich and Annika Mickelson.
