Helen Beatrice Ohr, age 91 of Cannon Falls, died on Friday morning, January 20, 2012 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls. Helen was born on August 3, 1920 in Dennison, MN, the daughter of Alfred and Annette (Hanson) Barsness. She attended school in Kenyon, and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1939. She married L. Philip Ohr on September 14, 1940 in Cannon Falls. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, and was active in WELCA, sewing circle and quilting group. She was also an active volunteer with the Cannon Falls Food Shelf. She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary, having been a member since 1947. Helen was a seamstress for 35 years at Kid Duds in Cannon Falls, retiring in 1985. Helen enjoyed her doll collection, and was a talented seamstress. She enjoyed making quilts for her grandchildren and sewing many gifts for her family. She was also an avid reader. She will be remembered for her love of family, her gentle spirit, and her strong faith. She is survived by her four children, Larry of St. Paul, Patty (Russell) Zimmerman of Goodhue, Bruce of Cannon Falls, and Heidi (Dean) Lundgren of Cannon Falls; seven grandchildren, Tracy J. Zimmerman, Brett (Heidi) Zimmerman, Chris (Shelley) Zimmerman, Jessica Hale, Erik, Kirsten and Britta Lundgren, all of Cannon Falls; eight great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Walls, Brittany Reller, Cole, Jeffry, Beau, Alisha, Kendahl and Brooks Zimmerman; sisters-in-law, Betty Woodward of Dundas, Jean Barsness of Cannon Falls, Barb Barsness of Des Moines, IA and Joyce Ohr of Rochester; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years, Phil on November 22, 1996; grandson, Jeff Zimmerman; and brothers, Marvin, Herb and Leo Barsness. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 25 at 11:00 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Phil Ruud officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorials are preferred to First English Lutheran Church or the Cannon Falls Food Shelf. Spring interment will take place at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
