Irene Lundell

Irene Davina Lundell, age 98 of Cannon Falls, died peacefully of natural causes on Thursday afternoon, July 13, 2017 at Twin Rivers Senior Campus in Cannon Falls, where she had resided since January. Irene was born at home on August 20, 1918 in Leon Township, the daughter of David and Amelia (Dahlin) Bakkethun. She attended rural country school in the Wangen Prairie area, later graduating from Cannon Falls High School in 1935. After normal teacher’s training, she then taught in several country schools, including District 46, where she met Myron. They were married on May 22, 1945 at Wangen Prairie Lutheran Church and spent their lives in the Cannon Falls area, farming and raising a family. Irene enjoyed baking, canning, gardening, sewing, and quilting. She was a very active member of St. Ansgar’s Lutheran Church where she served for many years as a Sunday school teacher, and participated in Bible study and quilting group. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and the Home Extension Project Group. She was active for many years in the Cloverdale 4-H Club as a club leader and project leader. She loved the Cannon Valley Fair. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of over 48 years, Myron on August 28, 1993; sisters, Anna A. Johnson and Junice Goudy; and two infant children. She is survived by her children, Brian of Cannon Falls, Bradley (Randi) of Roseville, Blake of Minneapolis, and Beverly of Woodbury; granddaughters, Carmen and Hallie Lundell; many nieces and nephews, and feline companions, Barney and Otis. A special thanks to her wonderful neighbors for all their friendship and support. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 16 from 2-4:30 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. Funeral service will be on Monday, July 17 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation from 1-2 p.m. at St. Ansgar’s Lutheran Church, Cannon Falls. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Denice and Jerry Holz, Karen and Rollin Titus, Dallas Forsman, and Lawrence Johnson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Ansgar’s Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar’s Cemetery fund, or donor’s choice.
