Irene Sumner

Irene Harriet (Daniels) Sumner, age 93, a lifelong resident of Cannon Falls, died on Tuesday evening, October 21, 2014 at Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls. Irene was born on April 17, 1921 in Warsaw Township, the daughter of Ray and Edna (Platt) Daniels. She married Harvey C. Sumner on December 28, 1940 at Cresco, Iowa. Irene was a homemaker, and was later employed at Wille's Clothing Store for over 26 years. She also worked at Gamble's. Irene was a lifelong member of First English Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Zion Chapter #6, serving for over 60 years. Harvey and Irene shared their married life of over 73 years together, enjoying camping, fishing, and traveling. They loved spending time with family and enjoyed playing cards. She now joins Harvey in their eternal home. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey on June 18, 2014; granddaughter, Traci Fry; sisters, Norma Folkert and Dorothy Steenblock; and brother, Owen Daniels. She is survived by her son, Harvey B. "Buzzy" (Donna) Sumner of Jonesboro, LA; grandson, Mark (Jessie) Sumner of Livingston, MT; two great grandchildren, Kyra and Jeremy; sister-in-law, Jane Daniels of Rochester; and nieces and nephews, and their families. Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 27 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation from 1-2 p.m. at First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mark and Jeremy Sumner, Dick Houghton, Blaine Husbyn, Peter Daniels, and Jay Chytracek. Memorials are preferred to donor's choice.
