Irene Marie Ekness Conrad Zimmerman, age 87 of Woodbury and formerly of Cannon Falls, passed away on Friday afternoon, January 18, 2013 at Woodbury Health Care Center in Woodbury. Irene was born on July 13, 1925 in Harvey, North Dakota, the daughter of Olai and Inga (Ekness) Ekness. Her family moved to Minnesota and she graduated from Farmington High School in 1943. She married Ernest H. Conrad on June 13, 1953 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. She had worked as a bookkeeper with Twin City Milk for 15 years, Princess Toys in Cannon Falls for 7 years, and as an assembler at Sheldahl in Northfield from 1969-1989, when she retired. Ernest died in 1984, and she later married James A. Zimmerman Sr. on June 17, 1989 at Our Saviour's Ev. Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. He died in 2000. She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary. She loved bowling! She started in high school and continued for 50 years! She served as secretary of the Bowling Association. She enjoyed traveling and did a lot of it during national bowling championships. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre. She is survived by her son, Dennis (Beth) Conrad; daughter-in-law, Carol Conrad; grandson, Eric Conrad; and many nieces, nephews, loving friends, and Jim's family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; son, Steven Conrad; and four brothers, Ken (Val), Orval (Joyce), Carl, and Arvin (Janet) Ekness. Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 25 at 10:30 a.m., with visitation from 9:30-10:30 a.m., at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Steven Schwartz officiating. Interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at 1:15 p.m. at Assembly Area #4.
