James O'Connor

November 22, 1943 — January 15, 2008

James Arnold "Jim" O'Connor, age 64 of Red Wing, died on Tuesday evening, January 15, 2008 at the Fairview Red Wing Medical Center.



Jim was born on November 22, 1943 in Cannon Falls, the son of Francis J. and Nora (Siewert) O'Connor. He graduated from the Cannon Falls High School in 1961, and went on to attend St Thomas College, earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Degree at the University of Minnesota, received a Master of Science Degree at Arizona University and studied Russian at Syracuse University.



He served with the U.S. Air Force in Turkey during the Vietnam era, from 1964 until his honorable discharge in 1968. He returned from military service to work with the National Security Administration until his retirement.



For many years, he resided in the Lake George, Colorado area, where he enjoyed being a camp host for many years with the US Forest Service. He moved to Red Wing in 2004.



Jim loved the outdoors! He enjoyed hiking, camping and spending time in the mountains. He also loved photography and was an avid reader.



He is survived by his brother, Francis "Frank" (Sophie) of Burnsville; sisters, Peggy Ryan of Goodhue and Barb (Jerry) Wall of Burnsville; and many nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant siblings; brother-in-law, Charles Ryan; and two nephews, Steve and Tom Ryan.



Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Goodhue, with Father Bruce Peterson officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to mass on Saturday at church.

Interment with military honors will be held on Tuesday, January 22 at 11 a.m. at Assembly Area #4 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.



Active pallbearers will be nephews and nieces, Kelly and Dave Ryan, Teresa Voth, Carol O'Connor, Jeff and Brian Wall.
