John Beckman

John Halvor Beckman, age 73 of Cannon Falls, died on Thursday afternoon, September 28, 2006 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. John was born on September 12, 1933 in Steele County, the son of John Nifton Rutherford Beckman and Amanda Marie (Knutson) Beckman. He attended District #50 through the 8th grade, and later married Carol B. Soine on June 22, 1956 at Wangen Prairie Lutheran Church. Carol died on August 21, 1991. John was an active member of the Wangen Prairie Lutheran Church, where he had served as treasurer, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, Gideons for 30 years, and Synod council for 6 years. John had been employed for 38 years at Countryside Implement in Cannon Falls, where he sold John Deere equipment. He retired in May, 2005. For many years, John assisted John Burch as a volunteer at the Bears Baseball games in Cannon Falls, and in later years he also volunteered at the care center. John married Shirley (nee Myran) Johnson on June 18, 1993 at Wangen Prairie Lutheran Church. John is survived by his wife of 13 years, Shirley; son, John "Jay" Beckman of Denver, CO; daughter, Julie (Keith) Lorentz of Cannon Falls; step-daughter, Tara Johnson of Minneapolis; step-sons, Troy Johnson of Cannon Falls and Chad (Joni) Johnson of Minneapolis; seven grandchildren, Nicholas and Joshua Regenscheid, Madison Lorentz, Ashley and Ariel Beckman, Brock Duden and Emily Johnson; brothers and sister, Larry (Marleen) Beckman of Dennison, Carol Jean Herkenratt of Rosemount and Donovan (Linda) Beckman of Northfield; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol; and three infant children. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 3 at 2:00 pm at Wangen Prairie Lutheran Church, with Pastor Scott McLaughlin officiating. Interment of his cremated remains will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5-8 pm at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation from 1-2 pm at the church on Tuesday. Memorials are preferred to Mount Carmel Church Camp in Alexandria, MN. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Lilleskov, John Peine, Darold Safe, Don Becksted, Loren Berkness, and David McKeag.
