John Erie

April 18, 1942 — September 11, 2007

John Russell Erie, age 65 of Vasa, died at his home on Tuesday afternoon, September 11, 2007.



John was born on April 18, 1942 in Faribault, the son of Raymond J. and Edna C. (Hoseth) Erie. John graduated from the Cannon Falls High School in 1959.



He married Judith A. Hanson on October 13, 1962 at the Urland Lutheran Church. He worked for 35 years as a cement mason, and was a member of the Twin City Bricklayers Union.

John was a member of the Vasa Lutheran Church, and is also a past member of the Red Men?s Club in Red Wing.

John loved spending time listening to old-time country music, playing horseshoes, bowling, gardening, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed listening to the radio and watching television, reading and doing crossword puzzles. He loved nature, and watching the birds at his feeders. He was also a Nascar fan.



He is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, Judy; four children, Kevin (Paula) Erie of Goodhue, Korin (Dave) Nash and Kyle Erie, all of Vasa, and Kelly (Tracy) Lamoreux of White Rock; ten grandchildren, Tyler, Blayne and Ashton Erie, Whitney and Spencer Nash, Madison and Kaden Erie, Lyndsey, Mitchell and Nathan Lamoreux; six sisters and brothers, Ruthanne (Clifford) Nelson of Cannon Falls, Andrew Erie of Vasa, Eugene Erie of Lodgepole, NE, Charles (Martha) Erie of Vasa, Dianne (Charles) Dashow of Dundas and Joanne (Ronald) Lindholm of White Rock; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Elaine Hanson of Kenyon; and in-laws and their families, Jerry (Donna) Hanson of Owatonna, Susan (Mike) Knudson of Hager City, WI, Vicky (Mark) Avery of West Concord, Bruce (Marlene) Hanson of Frontenac, Melanie Bateman of Sparta, IL, Brenda Lingenfelter and Christian Hanson, both of Kenyon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Austin Erie.



A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 14 at 11:00 a.m. at the Vasa Lutheran Church, with Pastor Michael Dobbins officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church.



Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Tyler, Blayne and Ashton Erie, Whitney and Spencer Nash, Madison and Kaden Erie, Lyndsey, Mitchell and Nathan Lamoreux
