Joyce Kay Schwartz, age 88 of Minneapolis, died on Sunday afternoon, February 3, 2013 at Southview Acres in West St. Paul. Joyce was born on January 5, 1925 in Minneapolis, the daughter of Henry and Gertrude (Davis) Opseth.
She graduated from Augsburg College in 1945, where she sang in the choir under the direction of her father. She taught English over 30 years at Annandale & Richfield Public Schools. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. She is survived by her sons, Mark (Anne) of Kasson and Steven (Nancy) of Cannon Falls; 5 grandsons, Samuel, Luke, Peter, Tommy and Ethan; and nieces & nephew, Julie, Lisa and Todd. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Dawn Olson. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 7 at 4 p.m. at Hoversten Chapel, Foss Center at Augsburg College, 2211 Riverside Ave, Minneapolis. Memorials are preferred to the Henry Opseth Music Scholarship at Augsburg College.
