Julia Emery

Julia Belle Emery, age 88 of Northfield and formerly of Stanton, died on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the Northfield Hospital Long Term Care Center, where she has been residing the past two years. Julia was born at home in Stanton on October 29, 1924, the oldest child of Earl R. and Eva M. (Ruff) Emery. She graduated from Randolph High School in 1942 and went on to receive her normal teacher's training in Cannon Falls. She later attended Winona State College, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in 1961. Julia taught at three country schools, in Dennison, High Prairie, and west of Stanton. She then taught third grade at the Cannon Falls Elementary School for over 30 years, retiring in 1986. Julia was a lifelong active member of Stanton United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and served as treasurer for many years. Julia enjoyed gardening and traveling, and had traveled many parts of the world. She is survived by her brother, Willard (Peggy) Emery of Stanton; sisters-in-law, Janet Emery of Stanton and LaVon Emery of Northfield; and many nieces and nephews, Keith Emery, Debbie (Mike) Fischbach Lee (Deb) Emery, Steven (Shirley) Emery, Darlene (Mike) Witt, Brian (Bernadette) Emery, Cindy (Ralph) Neil, Terry (Tom) Johnson, Lori (Brian) Malecha, Glen (Teresa) Emery, Jill Emery, Judy Emery, Kurt (Michelle) Emery and Kay Egland. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Howard and Kenneth Emery. Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Stanton United Methodist Church, with Pastor Mark Garrison officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be her nephews, and honorary pallbearers will be her nieces. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls, and on Monday from 10-11 a.m. at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Julia's name to the Stanton Cemetery.
