Kevin Peine

Kevin James Peine, age 34 of Cannon Falls, died unexpectedly on Friday evening, January 20, 2012 at Hennepin County Medical Center as a result of a construction accident. Kevin was born on August 11, 1977 in Northfield, the son of James H. and Kitty (Schafer) Peine. He grew up and attended school in Cannon Falls, graduating from Cannon Falls High School in 1996. He then attended Brown Institute where he received his degree in graphic design. Kevin worked in construction for several years until starting his own construction company, "Peine Construction" with his brother, Kent. Kevin met his life companion, Katie LaFond in the summer of 1998 at Lake Byllesby. His pride and joy, son Preston, was born in 2006, and they were inseparable. Kevin loved life! He enjoyed music, playing drums, and "was in a crappy garage band." He also enjoyed reading, snowboarding and sports. He was a strong person, creative, artistic, spiritual, a jokester, and stubborn! He was open to everything, but chose his own path in life. He will be remembered by his family and friends as the guy that could make you laugh, and could bring out the best in people around him! He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He leaves behind to mourn, his fiancé, Katie LaFond and their children, Preston Peine, Damian and Sebastian Rappe, all at home in Cannon Falls; parents, James (Sandra) Peine and Kitty Peine, all of Cannon Falls; four brothers and three nephews, Curt, Keith and his sons, Christopher and Adam Peine, Cory, Kent (Jessica) and their son, Kyle, all of Cannon Falls; two step-sisters, Michelle (Justin) Hoff and their children, Alex and Kate Hoff of Rosemount, and Jennifer (Chris) Cable of Lake City; grandparents, John and Helen Peine and Lucille Schafer, all of Cannon Falls; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Craig; and grandfather, Rupert Schafer. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 26 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cannon Falls, with Father Jay Kythe celebrating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m., with a parish vigil at 7:30 p.m., at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation on Thursday at church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Pallbearers will be Alex Carlson, Mike Schultz, Curt, Keith, Cory and Kent Peine, Mike and Chris LaFond. Spring interment will take place at St. Pius V Catholic Cemetery.
