LaVon Marie Thompson, age 91 of Hastings, formerly of Northfield and Cannon Falls, died on Monday evening, June 4, 2012 at the Regina Medical Center Senior Living in Hastings. LaVon was born on August 12, 1920 in Wahpeton, North Dakota, the daughter of William E. and Clara J. (Brandon) Olson.   She married Joseph T. Thompson on May 25, 1946 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua, Iowa.  She was employed at the Cannon Falls Hospital as a cook from 1970-1998.  She enjoyed her religious community, and loved to spend time with family and friends.  She loved being outdoors and enjoyed gardening and her flowers.  She loved piano music, reading, and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph on November 20, 1972; her parents; brothers, Del and Rusty Olson; and sisters, Becky Island and Dort Lill. She is survived by her eight children, Michael (Linda) of Dennison, Lynn (Greg) Gilligan of Hastings, Steven (Colleen) of Cannon Falls, Tamara (Michael) Mason of Hastings, Mark (Linnea) of Cannon Falls, Randy (Teri) of Randolph, Carl of Cannon Falls, and Mary Jo of Faribault; 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 8 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls, with Richard Raschke and Alfred Broady officiating. Memorials are preferred to donor's choice. A private interment will be held at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, with her children serving as pallbearers.
