Leo Buchardt

March 10, 1929 — December 28, 2007

Leo Allan Buchardt, age 78, currently a resident at the Minnesota Masonic Home in Bloomington and formerly of Wanamingo, died on Friday, December 28, 2007 at the Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina.



Leo was born on March 10, 1929 in Arlington, NE, the son of Theodore and Pearl (Newkirk) Buchardt. He married Marilyn Carleton on June 11, 1949 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Fontanelle, NE.

Leo worked at Hormel in Fremont, NE, and after his father retired, Leo took over farming the family farm. They moved to Wanamingo, MN in 1971, where he continued farming until retiring in 1982.

Marilyn died on April 12, 1987.

Leo enjoyed playing cards, cribbage, and fishing. Leo was known for his good sense of humor, and his love of socializing.



Leo has been a resident of the MN Masonic Home in Bloomington for the past five years, where he currently served as "sheriff." Leo has also been a Master Mason for over 50 years through the Hiram Lodge in Arlington, NE.



He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; parents, Theodore and Pearl Buchardt; and brother, Emil.



He is survived by his four children, Bob and Deb Buchardt of Cannon Falls, Sue Buchardt and Ruth Dockter of Long Beach, WA, Bruce Buchardt and Ann Erie of Rochester, and Mike and Maxine Buchardt of Lincoln, NE; 4 grandchildren, Angela, Tyler, Justin and Jared Buchardt; sister, Nadine (John) Sorenson of Arlington, NE; and nieces and nephews.



A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Holden Lutheran Church in rural Kenyon, with Pastor Michael Lockerby officiating. A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. at the church on Wednesday.

Active pallbearer will be Justin Buchardt. Honorary pallbearers will be Angela, Tyler and Jared Buchardt.

Spring interment will take place at Holden Lutheran Cemetery.
