Lillie Nelson

Lillie Elizabeth Nelson, age 96 of Cannon Falls, died on Tuesday evening, June 18, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Lillie was born on November 2, 1916 in Oldtown, Maryland, the daughter of John and Lillie (Mitchell) Barnes. She married Leonard E. Nelson on September 7, 1939 at Cumberland, Maryland. Lillie was a homemaker and worked at Kid Duds in Cannon Falls for 28 years, retiring in 1990. Lillie had been a resident of the Stone House Apartments until moving to Twin Rivers Senior Campus in April, 2010. She was a member of St. Pius V Catholic Church, where she was active in St. Michael's Circle. She was an excellent baker and seamstress, and loved gardening and traveling. She will be remembered for her love of family, her strong faith, and her loving nature. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard on May 17, 1994; brothers, John and Peter Barnes; and sisters, Agnes Snyder, Ivy Carder, Mary Teter, and Eva Ott. She is survived by her son, Francis (Bernie) Nelson of Cannon Falls and daughter, Rosemary (Michael) Heinrich of Apple Valley; grandchildren, Joel (Chrissy) Nelson, Jerry (Kari) Nelson, Steven (Lisa) Nelson, Todd (Korrey) Heinrich and Tracy (Jedd) Taylor; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 24 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius V Catholic Church, with Father Fernando Ortego celebrating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 23 from 3-6 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church on Monday from 10-11 a.m. Pallbearers will be Joel, Jerry, and Steven Nelson, Todd Heinrich, Tracy and Jedd Taylor. Memorials are preferred to the elevator fund at St. Pius V Catholic Church.
