Lloyd Winther Klefstad was born on March 4, 1953, in Greenbush, Minnesota and passed peacefully into God’s loving arms on November 30, 2025, following a brief illness. Throughout his life, Lloyd faced multiple serious health challenges with remarkable courage, quiet determination, and steady stoicism that inspired all who knew him. He was the beloved son of Lloyd and Helen Klefstad, and dear brother to his sisters, Karen, Randi, Ann, and Marie. He was godfather to his nephew Benjamin.
Lloyd was an alumnus of Golden Valley Lutheran College. Early in his career, he worked as a radiology technician before working for a number of years at Midwest Importers, while making his home in Cannon Falls. His coworkers and friends alike admired his strong work ethic, dependability, and quiet humor.
A man of deep faith and service, Lloyd was actively involved in his home church, St. Ansgar’s Lutheran, where he was ahead of his time—volunteering to video church services long before live streaming became common. He was also an early tech adopter who built and programmed his own computer. An accomplished nature photographer, Lloyd, had a natural eye for detail and beauty. He was a proud, long-time member of the Lions Club, where he embodied the spirit of service and was honored as Lion of the Year.
Lloyd was married, and following his divorce, he retired to the Twin Cities to be closer to family. An avid traveler throughout his life, his journeys included spending a summer as a child in Madagascar and Norway and then as an adult traveling to Canada, Europe, the Caribbean, Greece and the Holy Land. Family reunions ‘Up North’ were an annual event that Lloyd enthusiastically enjoyed, from fishing to family theme nights, to s’mores around the campfire; the annual week away was a most special time for him. Some of his most cherished trips were with his sister Randi and brother-in-law Philip, including cruises through the Caribbean and the Mexican Riviera, visits to San Diego, Napa Valley, Seattle, and Las Vegas.
An enthusiastic student of history—especially World War II—Lloyd’s fascination was deeply influenced by his father’s service in the U.S. Navy. Family often shared that his father’s stories sparked Lloyd’s lifelong love of naval history and all things related to boats.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the extraordinary staff and hospice team at Suite Living in Eden Prairie for their devoted and loving care. The kindness of the caregivers and fellow residents brought great comfort to Lloyd and his family. Lloyd was lovingly referred to as ‘Uncle Lloyd’ by many at Suite Living.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Lions Clubs International Foundation.
