Lyle Erickson

Lyle Erickson, age 87 of Cannon Falls, died October 15, 2013 at the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Minneapolis. Private services were held at Lyle's request at Lundberg Funeral Home on October 19, 2013 with burial in the Cannon Falls Cemetery. Lyle Salzman Erickson, the son of Elmer and Mary (Salzman) was born on the family farm near Dennison, Minnesota on May 5, 1926. He attended the local country school and graduated from Randolph High School in 1944. Lyle entered active duty in the US Army and was stationed in France during the European Theatre with the 778th Tank Batallion. After his honorable discharge he attended Luther College for a short time in Decorah, Iowa. Lyle was united in marriage to Arlene Flom on February 9, 1950 in Cannon Falls at the First English Lutheran Church. Lyle worked for the state highway department for a few years before pursuing his training in the baking business at the Dunwoody Institute. He and Arlene purchased and operated the Hi-Quality Bakery in Cannon Falls for several years. In 1958 Lyle started his career at General Mills as a Food Research Technician, a position that he enjoyed until his retirement in 1989. Lyle enjoyed boating, fishing, golfing and "putzing" around the house. He had a gift of making excellent wedding cakes which he shared with many throughout the years. Lyle is survived by his wife of 63 years Arlene of Cannon Falls; daughter Cynthia Ann (Pete) Karpen of Hastings; grandchildren, Melissa, Nicholas and Meghan all of Hastings; great grandchildren, Brant and Rilee Lynn Karpen; brother, Larry (Gloria) of Duluth; nephews, Timothy (Kris) of Hammond, WI, Eric (Kim) of Cotton, MN and Mitchell (Roseann) of Esko, MN. Also surviving is one great niece and eight great nephews and other extended family. He is preceded in death by his son, Brant and parents. Casket Bearers were Melissa, Nicholas and Meghan Karpen and Timothy, Eric and Mitchell Erickson. Honorary Bearers were Brant and Rilee Lynn Karpen.
