Marcella Pelkey

Marcella Lorine (Bergstrom) Pelkey, age 92 of Cannon Falls, died on Thursday evening, April 10, 2014 at Twin Rivers Senior Campus in Cannon Falls. Marcella was born on July 6, 1921 in Cannon Falls, MN, the daughter of C. Menfred and Blanche (Welt) Bergstrom. She graduated in 1937 from Cannon Falls High School. Marcella attended normal teacher's training, and at the age of 16 years, taught local country schools for 7 years. She married Eugene "Gene" Pelkey on April 24, 1943 in Cannon Falls. She worked as a cashier at Dayton's for 7 years, cashier and teller for 7 years at First National Bank in Minneapolis, and later worked as cashier for 13 years at Asleson's. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Cannon Falls, and was a member of Odd Fellow/Rebekahs. She was an avid MN Twins fan. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 64 years, Gene; an infant brother and brother, Wilbur Bergstrom. Marcella is survived by her brother, Delmer (Mildred) Bergstrom of Scottsdale, AZ; sisters-in-law, Eva Marie Bergstrom of Cannon Falls, Betty Pelkey of Stanton, and Luella Pelkey of Minneapolis; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 19 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Barbara Martin officiating. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to First Congregational Church, Shepherd Center, or Twin Rivers Senior Campus.
