Marilyn Berglund

April 1, 1941 — October 25, 2023

Cannon Falls

Marilyn Jean Berglund, age 82, of Cannon Falls and formerly of Tofte, Grand Marais and Stillwater, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Cannon Country Assisted Living in Cannon Falls surrounded by her family after a courageous nine year journey with cancer.
Marilyn was born on April 1, 1941 in Braham, MN, the daughter of Ray and Ruby (Swenson) Bystrom. She graduated from Cook County High School in Grand Marais in 1959. On March 12, 1960, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Lloyd Berglund at the Zoar Lutheran Church in Tofte, MN. Lloyd and Marilyn raised their family in Grand Marais and were the owners of the SeaWall Motel. In 1985, they moved to Cannon Falls where they owned and operated the Coast to Coast Hardware Store for six years before moving to Stillwater where they resided for the next 20 years. While there Marilyn worked at the Seasons Tique gift shop downtown Stillwater. She enjoyed gardening and filled their yard with beautiful flowers. In 2012, they moved back to Cannon Falls where they retired.
Our mom was an amazing woman who was much loved by her family and many friends. Her greatest joy was her family; her three children, eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
Family traditions were important and our times together were always special. The coffee parties, the times baking in the kitchen, and the Christmas music will all be etched in our memories forever. Her greatest qualities were to encourage us to make the best of everything, to love your family and to face adversity head on.
Survivors include her children, Tracy (Brian) Albertson of Stillwater, Troy Berglund of Stillwater, and Tricia (Michael) Meyers of Cannon Falls; grandchildren, Darek (Megan) Albertson, Stephen (Madelyn) Albertson, Cory (Ashley) Albertson, Jordan Berglund, Jacob Berglund, Mitchell (Kira) Meyers, Cody (Mary Smith) Meyers, and Leah (Garrett) Beach; great grandchildren, Wyatt, Jack and Vivienne Albertson, Lily Albertson, Ruby, Everett, and Joseph Meyers.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd in 2018; her parents; brothers, Richard Bystrom and infant Donald; sister, Nancy Brazell; special nephew Donovan Brazell; parents-in-law, Gust and Karin Berglund; and brother-in-law, Eric "Gunnar" Berglund.
She filled her life with joy and fun, and always looked for the silver lining.

A private family service will be held in the spring at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
Marilyn's family would like to thank the caring staff at Cannon Country Assisted Living, and the wonderful care and support offered by Mayo Hospice, with special thanks to Greg Miller.
