Martin P. Dettling

August 27, 1940 — June 8, 2025

Cannon Falls

Martin (Marty) Phillip Dettling, died peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2025, after a short battle with cancer.

Marty graduated from Northfield High School in 1958. He worked as a carpenter, bartender and mechanic, and was self-employed since 1965 after starting Dettling Bulk Milk Hauling. He retired in 2019.

Marty was a member of St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church and an active member of the Cannon Falls Jaycees. He was the longest living honorary member of the Clutchmen's Club of Dennison, loved talking, enjoyed being with people, and excelled at helping others. He was an excellent craftsman, enjoyed spending time on his boat The Milky Wave and his 40 years of golf trips with friends. He loved his home, his association and friends in Florida. His family, however, was his top priority, and he spent much of his time (and money!) fixing up his yard for family and friends to enjoy.

Marty was preceded in death by his parents Jake and Ora Dettling; daughter Dawn; sisters Sharon and Carol; and brother-in-law, David.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alicia; sons Phillip (Tracy), Shad (Holly), and Craig; grandchildren Danielle (Dan), Brianna (Ryan), Jake (Maggie), Jessie (Travis), Nick (Sarah), Phillip (Chelsea), and Mathew; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Marty was much loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

He was "superb" until the end.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at a place to be determined.
