Maxine Sunde, age 97, died on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at the Northfield Care Center.
Maxine Myrl Sunde was born on Oct. 4, 1923, in Lakota, ND, the daughter of Myrl Leroy and Hazel (Austin) Martin. She lived in various locations with her parents as a child. Maxine graduated from Randolph High School in 1943. During WWII, she and Max Leir were united in marriage in Cannon Falls. Sadly, Max was killed in 1945 in the war. On January 10, 1948 Maxine and Donald Sunde were married at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Randolph, the first couple to be married in the church. She was a member there the rest of her life. Maxine enjoyed sports, including the Minnesota Twins, games, puzzles, movies, cooking and baking, was well known as a rock hound, bowled for over 50 years, and loved old movies. She enjoyed summers spent at their cabin on Lake Byllesby with her family.
Survivors include her children Penny Vogelgesang. Barbara Sunde Zahn, Randee Deuth, and Susan (Tim) Bresnahan; grandchildren Daniel, Leanne, Susanne, Jeffrey, Robert, Emily, Jennifer, Jesse, Rick, and Tina; great-grandchildren Sawyer, Mary, Sarah, Nick, Samantha, Nathan, Ryan, Kaitlyn, Keston, Karter, Mariah, Gavin, Isaac, Riley, Keegan, Zoey, Colin, Wyatt, Cooper, Aidan, Stella, Sawyer, Joanna, Darian, and Elijah; and well as other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Max and Donald, son-in-law Jeffrey L. Deuth, grandson Billy Vogelgesang, and sister Betty Holmstrom.
Memorials may be directed to the Northfield Care Center.
Family funeral service will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Randolph. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Randolph. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Lundberg Funeral Home is assisting the family.
