Milan Matasich, age 74 of Cannon Falls, died from a valiant, short fight with lung cancer on Thursday afternoon, May 2, 2019 at the Regina Care Center in Hastings.
Milan was born on July 27, 1944 in Otocac, Lika, Croatia, the son of Ivan and Rose Matasich. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Virginia, MN, in 1965, and later from Bemidji State University in 1969. He moved to Cannon Falls to begin his teaching career in 1970. He was the Industrial Arts teacher at Cannon Falls High School for 32 years, when he retired in 2003. In his early years, he was an assistant football coach. Most of his years, he was a track and cross-country coach.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother, Matt of Virginia and sister, Marijana (Drazen) Romac of Zagreb, Croatia; and nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 10 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at St. Pius V Catholic Church, 410 Colvill St. W., Cannon Falls.
Interment will be held later at Calvary Cemetery, Virginia, MN.
