Myron Harvey "Mike" Ashton, age 88 of Cannon Falls, died on Friday afternoon, July 20, 2012 at Three Links Care Center in Northfield, where he has been residing since September, 2010. Myron was born on January 21, 1924 in Renville County, the son of James R. and Angeline (Freese) Ashton. He was a parachute rigger and repairman in the U.S. Army from April 1946 - Oct. 1947. He married Joyce M. "Mitzi" Brunette on February 10, 1950 in Minneapolis. They raised their family in the Cannon Falls area. Myron drove truck for Minneapolis Ready Mix/Shiely/Cemstone Concrete Products until retiring. He was a quiet man with a unique sense of humor. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, hunting, and looking out at Lake Byllesby. He was a member of St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cannon Falls, and was also a member of Teamsters Locals 221 and 120. He is survived by his children, Bob (Faye) Wellman of Litchfield NE, Joyce (Bob) Meyers of Cannon Falls, Teresa (Charlie) Niebur of Randolph, Susan (Stephen) Kulikowski of Andover, Merrilee (Doug) Weber of Miesville, Michael Ashton of Cannon Falls, and Kelly (Tim) Brewer of Goodhue; 20 grandchildren, Todd, Wendi, Stephen, Zachary, Shannon, Brandon, Chaz, Becky, Donje, Sianna, Nick, Sam, Braeden, Garett, Jaysha, Dacota, Kendra, Caitlin, Andrew, and Christopher; 16 great-grandchildren, Amanda, Brandon, Mackenzie, Caleb, Holden, Ernie, Evie, Quentin, Adrian, Linnae, Jack, Derek, Mitch, Alex, Charlie, and Jaylee; sisters, Irene Schultz of Hastings and Margie (John) Dalton of Tucson, AZ; brother, Jim (Dee) Ashton of Cannon Falls; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 56 years, Mitzi on July 6, 2006; sisters, Katherine Rhode and Angie Baker; and brother, Fred Ashton. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 24 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cannon Falls, with Fr. Fernando Ortega and Fr. Leonard Siebenaler concelebrating. Interment with military honors will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at church on Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Active pallbearers will be Todd Wellman, Stephen Meyers, Brandon Niebur, Stephen Kulikowski, Sam Weber, Braeden Ashton, and Andrew Jenson. Honorary pallbearer will be Darl Boone.
