Oscar Palrud

March 15, 1919 — March 24, 2007

Oscar Harold Palrud, age 88 of Northfield and formerly of Cannon Falls, died on Saturday evening, March 24, 2007 at the Northfield Care Center.

"Little Oscar",as he was known to family, was the proprietor of Little Oscar's Restaurant in Hampton from 1964-83, and of the Dairy Bar in Cannon Falls from 1949-1964.



Oscar was born the son of Norwegian immigrant parents, Ole and Mary (Thompson) Palrud, on March 15, 1919 in Faribault. He grew up in Faribault and graduated from Faribault High School in 1937. He attended St. Olaf College before joining the military.

Oscar was a pilot in the Pacific Theater during World War II, with the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the 13th (Jungle) Air Force of the Army Air Corps.



He married Carroll M. Wahlberg on January 12, 1944 at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. Oscar served as a volunteer firefighter in the Cannon Falls Fire Department for 25 years. He was also a member of the VFW Nelson Scofield Post #4452, where he served as commander in 1950.

He loved to travel the world, and had a passion for trains. He rode trains on 6 continents, including Japan's Bullet Train and the Trans-Siberian Express.



Oscar will be greatly missed by his family. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carroll of Northfield; five children, Marybeth (John) Bremer of Northfield, Lynn Palrud (David Canfield) of Minnetonka, Bob Palrud of St. Paul, Dawn (Jack) Coffey of Chappell, NE, and Jean (Shawn) Page of Minneapolis; 14 grandchildren, Kelly, Andrew, Diana, Leif, Christopher, Eric, Mary, Skip, Carolyn, Anna, Kirk, Grace, Joseph and Olaf; 2 great-grandchildren, Grace and Dane; two sisters, Ruth Orfield of Baltimore, MD and Alice Lehn of Minneapolis; and other loving family members.



He was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Mary Palrud; and brothers-in-law, Vincent Orfield and Leo Lehn.



Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 30 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. Officiants will be Rev. Jack Coffey, Rev. Gary Schulz and Rev. Arthur Sharot.

Interment with military honors will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
