Roger Stevens

July 2, 1936 — February 4, 2015

Roger Gene Stevens, age 78 of Cannon Falls, died on Wednesday afternoon, February 4, 2015 at Diamond Rehab and Living of Cannon Valley. Roger was born on July 2, 1936 in Cornell, Wisconsin, the son of Lawrence and Edith (Rose) Stevens. He graduated from Pine City High School in 1955, and went on to farm in the Rock Creek area until 1959. He then drove semi-truck and bought and sold livestock in many states until 1966. He later worked for Honeywell in St. Louis Park in machine repair until a permanent back injury was received at work. He married Marlys Jean Taxdahl, who at that time was working at the University of MN, on July 26, 1970 at Urland Lutheran Church. They lived in Minneapolis for the next 3 years until moving to Cannon Falls where Marlys was raised. They had lived for many years on 2 acres in the country, just west of Cannon Falls a couple of miles, until moving in to Cannon Falls in 2008.

Roger spent each summer raising a large organic garden. They enjoyed camping in their motor home at local campgrounds, especially enjoying Frontenac State Park and Shades of Sherwood. During the winter, Roger would do sales work on the telephone, mainly organic fertilizer and natural food supplements. He was a member of Urland Lutheran Church where he and Marlys taught Sunday School and Bible study. He also served as president of Lutheran Men in Mission, and was involved with Big Brother Big Sister. He was currently a member of Wangen Prairie Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife of over 44 years, Marlys; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dean and Donna Anderson of Cannon Falls and Gary and Diane Taxdahl of Turtle Lake, WI; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers, George and Gary Stevens; sister, Dorothy Hejny; and nephews, Terry and Bob Hejny, and Darren Anderson. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Feb 9 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at Wangen Prairie Lutheran Church, with Pastor Fred Morck officiating.
