Ruby Slininger

Ruby Junice Kathern Slininger, age 94 of Cannon Falls, died peacefully on Friday morning, December 12, 2008 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls, where she has resided the past four years.

Ruby was born at home in Ada, MN on October 2, 1914, the daughter of Henry G. and Augusta (Ike) Schultz. She was baptized at the First English Church in Ada, and later confirmed on June 14, 1931 in Lockhart, MN. She graduated from Ada High School in 1933.

Ruby married Elwyn L. Slininger on November 11, 1936 in Ada. They farmed near Randolph, where she raised their two children. She was a 4H leader for Stanton Prairie Creek for many years. She was an active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school for 33 years, and was involved with ladies aide.

Elwyn died on June 20, 1988, and Ruby moved in October, 1988 to the Park Street Apartments in Cannon Falls.

Ruby loved to read, bake, play cards, and make potato dumplings.

She is survived by her children, Chester (Bonita) Slininger of Kenyon, and Cheryl (Duane) Hermanson of Cannon Falls; four grandchildren, Scott Slininger (Connie Casebolt) of Mondovi, WI, Susan Slininger of Zumbrota, Curtis (Karianne) Hermanson and Denise (Matt) Punches, all of Cannon Falls; five great-grandchildren, Joshua Slininger, Shawna and Taylor Hermanson, Zachary and Ashley Punches; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jane (Dick) Martin of Northfield, Loyal (Earl) Rogers of Ulen, MN, Maxine Slininger of Andover, Lucille Slininger of Rosemount, Gloria Slininger of Elgin, IL and Magdalene Schultz of Clearwater, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elwyn; brothers, Walter and John Schultz; and sister, Hattie Turner.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 15 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Randolph, with Pastor Steven Schwartz officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the church.

Memorials are preferred to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and their spouses.
