Shirley Prink

Shirley Marise Prink, age 93 of Cannon Falls, died peacefully at home in the presence of her beloved family on Tuesday, December 1, 2015. Shirley was born on January 7, 1922 in Sogn (Warsaw Township), the daughter of Oscar Leonard Skaro and Annetta Josephine (Melhus) Skaro. She graduated from Cannon Falls High School in 1940, and went on to Normal teacher's training in Cannon Falls. She taught six years at country schools in the Spring Garden area (1), Sogn District #52 (2), Leon Township District #158 (2), and "5 mile" school on Highway 19 (1). She married Willard Merritt Young Prink on June 22, 1946 at Urland Lutheran Church. They farmed in Cannon Falls Township and raised their three children. Willard died on November 8, 1983, and she moved in to Cannon Falls in January, 1992. Shirley also worked at the Ford Plant in St. Paul for one year, and Kid Dud's in Cannon Falls for 2 years. She enjoyed sewing, flower gardening, was involved with homemaker's group, and loved taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an active member of St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, where she was involved in WELCA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willard; sister, Joyce L. Skaro; brother and sister-in-law, Truman and Joyce Skaro; great-grandson, Casey Broin-Clemens; and brothers-in-law, Jerry McWaters and Howard Jameson. She is survived by her children, Rodney (Caryon) Prink of Cannon Falls, Sherrilyn (David) Broin of Welch, and Candace (Jeremy) Anderson of Alma, WI; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson; sisters, Beulah Jameson of Silver Springs, Maryland and Arla McWaters of Dennison; sister-in-law, Gene Ann Johnson of Cedar Rapids, IA; and many nieces and nephews. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, December 5 at 2:00 pm, with visitation from 1-2 pm, at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to donor's choice in Shirley's memory. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Joe (Lindsey) Prink, Jared (Jessica) Prink and Avery and Annabel, Jessica Prink, Angelique Broin and Brody and Hunter, Kristian Broin and Bethany with Brock, Cameron Broin, Mitchell (Ella) Anderson and Francine and Jeremiah, Paige (Chris) Segerstrom and Claire, Hillary (Clint) Meyer and Wilhelmina and August, and Wyatt (Natalie) Anderson and Adella and Owen.
