Verlaine Skog

Verlaine Marjorie Skog, age 91 of Cannon Falls and formerly of Minneapolis, died on Thursday morning, October 29, 2015 at Augustana Care Center in Hastings. Verlaine was born on September 12, 1924 and grew up in Cannon Falls loving the bluffs that surrounded their family farm. She spent hours with her sisters roaming the land, picking crocuses in spring and bittersweet in autumn. She loved all God's creation, the wild flowers, the trees, the birds and animals, especially dogs. She graduated from Cannon Falls High School in 1943 during World War II. The Great Depression had ended, work became plentiful and she worked in various businesses in the Twin Cities. In 1955, Verlaine attended Lutheran Bible Institute (now Trinity Lutheran College) in Seattle, WA. Returning to Minnesota in 1957, she was employed at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in Minneapolis as Editorial Associate on the Decision Magazine. Verlaine loved writing poetry which appeared in some of the magazines and also enjoyed sending her family and friends cards with poems in them. Verlaine was a world traveler. She went to Israel, Norway, Germany, Ireland, Poland, Russia, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Austria, Hawaii, Caribbean Cruise and many of the 50 states. Verlaine retired from Billy Graham in 1993 after 35 years of dedicated service. She spent her retired years visiting family and friends. She sang in the Augustana Church choir in Minneapolis for years. In 2003, she moved back to her roots in Cannon Falls. She had an abundant and adventurous life and many blessings from God and others. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Anna (Kolbe) Skog; sisters, Doris Lellman, Marlys Nelson, LaVine Stauning, and Muriel Lindholm; and one brother, Deane Skog. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Deirdre (Howard) Olson, Mark (Lisa) Lellman, Bruce Lellman (Andrea), Suzanne (Lyle) Ness, Julie (Tom) Eilen, Becky (Jim) Goodwin, Randy (Geri) Lindholm, and Ron (Joanne) Lindholm; also 25 great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 1 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation from 1-2 p.m., at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Carol Sinykin officiating. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lyle Ness, Tom Eilen, Randy and Ron Lindholm, Mark and Bruce Lellman.
