William Farrier

February 12, 1935 — July 13, 2007

William "Bill" Farrier, age 72 of Cannon Falls, died on Friday afternoon, July 13, 2007 at Regions Hospital in Saint Paul.

William Lincoln Farrier was born in Minneapolis, MN on February 12, 1935. His parents were William J. and Lilyan Farrier. The parents divorced when Bill was about 5 years old and he was placed with his grandparents in Little Falls, MN. His grandfather was a policeman in Little Falls. Shortly thereafter, Bill was put into foster care and lived several places and ended up in a home in Mound, MN where he attended Sunday school. A former Cannon Falls pastor, Rev. Fagerlin was aware that Ruth and Clint Lundberg were interested in perhaps adopting or fostering an older child. Pastor Fagerlin contacted the Lundbergs and told them about this 10-year-old boy that needed a home. They drove up and met Bill and asked if he would like to come and visit with them. He said he would like to live on a farm where there were animals. Clint told him that he didn't have any animals, but there were lots of farms around Cannon Falls and they could visit them. Bill went to Cannon Falls and he was placed in their home on October 1, 1945, Bill did not want to change his name so he remained Farrier. Ruth and Clint Lundberg were in every sense of the word, his parents.

Bill graduated from Cannon Falls High School and was active in the band, chorus, and many sports, especially football. He was a Boy scout and earned the Eagle Scout Award. He attended the U of M for a year during which time he worked at Lundberg's Furniture where he drove ambulance, helped with funerals, and learned carpet laying. Bill was a carpet installer most of his life. He also drove school bus in Cannon Falls, worked as custodian at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church, worked at Econo Foods, and was employed by Gemini. Bill's hobbies were woodworking, fishing, watching sports of any kind, and spending time up north on his pontoon. As everyone knew he had a great sense of humor.

Bill and Joanne Lundell met in the trumpet section while in junior high school and the relationship continued and they were married June 27, 1952 at First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. The couple moved from Cannon Falls to Atlanta, Georgia in 1971 before moving to Portland, Oregon for a short time and returning to Cannon Falls in 1979. They just celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary in Regions Hospital.

They have five children, Vicki (Roger) Mallan of Austin, MN, William D. Farrier of Cannon Falls, Patty (Jerry) Wuollet of Farmington, New Mexico, Bruce Farrier of Emerald, WI, and Julie (Gary) Mallet of Cannon Falls. They are blessed with 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one in progress. Bill has two brothers-in-law, Roger Lundell of Angels Care Center and David (Ruth) Lundell of Rosemount; a sister-in-law Francis Grochowski of Chandler, Texas. Her husband Fred, Bill's brother was killed in a truck/Winnebago accident in October of 2002; a sister, Theresa Rindahl of McMinnville, Oregon. Bill lived only a short time with his sister and brother as a small child. Over the years he has had some contact with both of them. He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Wednesday July 18 at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls with Pastor Gary Schulz and Pastor Arthur Sharot officiating.
