Melvin Chester “Mel” Lyon, age 89 of Minneapolis, died on Sunday morning, January 24, 2021 at Redeemer Health & Rehab in Minneapolis.
Mel was born on October 26, 1931 in Rome, New York, the son of Charles and May (Fenton) Lyon.
Growing up, he was a Boy Scout and continued to be involved when his son was young. He received the Boy Scout District Award of Merit.
He married Elma Ann Moorhouse in April, 1966. Throughout his career, Mel worked as an accountant, specializing as a credit manager.
He is survived by children, Deborah (John) Ford of Myrtle Beach, SC, Wanda (Eugene) Rochat of Wichita, KS, and Dana (Laurie) Lyon of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Scott (Karen) Rochat, Judith (Donnie) Palmgrin, Shelley (Dale) Hickman, Ashley (Steve) Marek, and Matthew Lyon; step grandchild, Troy (Jennifer) Rochat; great-grandchildren, Lynne (Mitch Valenta), Tyler Kilgore, Dairian Rochat, Renay Killgore, and Raymond Ramsammy; great-great grandchild, Ellouise Hickman; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elma Ann on March 9, 2018; brother, Donald (Audra) Lyon; and step grandchild, Randall (Pam) Rochat.
A service to celebrate Mel’s life will be held at a later date.
