Betty Mae Midness (née Carlson), age 91, died April 8, 2017, at the Northfield Hospital Long Term Care Center in Northfield, MN, where she had resided since 2015.
Betty was born at home in Cannon Falls, MN on June 25, 1925, the daughter of Luther W. and Gladys (Robinson) Carlson. She graduated from Cannon Falls High School in 1943 and went on to study at Carleton College in Northfield from 1943-1945. On April 28, 1945, she was united in marriage with Robert William "Bill" Midness at the First Congregational Church of Cannon Falls.
She and Bill owned and operated the Ben Franklin Variety Store in Cannon Falls for many years until their retirement in 1989. They spent their life enjoying family and friends, traveling, and celebrating their Scandinavian heritage. Betty's passion was interior decorating and design, she enjoyed caring for her family and in her later years was an avid reader. Betty and Bill were members of the First English Lutheran Church.
Betty is survived by her sons Robert "Boo" (Sue) of Chanhassen and Wm. Scott (Lydia) of St Paul; five grandchildren: Sjur Midness (Briar Andresen), Haakon Midness (Paige), Siri Price (Jason), Bryce Banks and Brita Midness; 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Shirley Payne and nephew Mick (Gloria) Payne.
She was preceded in death by her parents Gladys in 1992 and Luther in 1993, her husband Bill in 2001 and their daughter Diantha "SuSue" Midness in 2009.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017, at 2 PM, with visitation at 1 PM, at the First English Lutheran Church, Cannon Falls, MN. Interment of her ashes will be at the Cannon Falls Cemetery in a private ceremony.
